The Master's Hammer and Chisel Week 1

The Master's Hammer and Chisel
If you have been following me at all, then you know that I started a new program called The Master's Hammer and Chisel!  I am almost to the end of week 2; however, as promised, I want to blog about each week, so, let's chat about week 1!!

Hammer and Chisel Nutrition Plan
The Masters Hammer and Chisel, Hammer and Chisel, Hammer and Chisel Equipment, Hammer and Chisel Nutrition plan, Hammer and Chisel meal plan, 21 Day Fix meal plan, Hammer and Chisel WorkoutsI thought a good place to start would be with the nutrition. After all, nutrition is 80% of your results, right?  If you have done any research on nutrition plans then I'm sure you've see the little color coded portion control containers, right?  Like another very popular program, The 21 Day Fix, The Hammer and Chisel program uses these too!  I really can't say enough about them.  They have truly been a game changer in my nutrition. When I started using these little gems I didn't realize how much I was over eating, even on healthy food! And no, you don't starve yourself using these. In fact, in my monthly accountability groups, many people have trouble getting all of their allotted containers in!

The Program and Nutrition Guide contain pretty much everything you need to know about the program.  Everything from the container plans, food lists, workout schedule, recipe, and more are included in this handy little book that can fit right in a purse!
A pretty cool feature to this plan is that there are EIGHT different container plans!  So, how do you know which plan you should follow?  Simple! There is a formula that you have to complete that is based on gender, weight, current activity level, and your goal.  You have a few options when it comes to your goals.  You can choose to lean out, maintain weight, or build muscle.  Once you complete the formula you fall in to one of the plans labeled A-H.

Hammer and Chisel Nutrition Guide

My personal plan is to lean out and based on my current weight and activity level, I  fall in to Plan A which is a range of 1200-1499 calories.  This happens to be the same plan I followed with the 21 Day Fix so I didn't have to change much in terms of nutrition. Below you will see a sample meal plan that contains the needed calories to meet this range.

There are quite a few yummy recipes in the book. I tried the Almond Crusted Chicken last week and it was DELICIOUS!

Along with recipes and food lists, there are quite a few homemade salad dressings and even sample meal plans that are vegetarian as well as grain-free.

Shakeology
As always, I incorporate Shakeology in to my daily routine as well.  Right now I am LOVING the crushed peppermint, salted caramel, and snicker doodle recipes! They are really helping with those holiday cookie cravings!  Despite what many people seem to think, Shakeology is not a protein shake, so, it can't be compared to one!  It comes in at about $4.33 per day and is a natural nutritional shake that has the proper carb to protein ratio, keeping you feeling fuller, longer.  You can use it as a meal replacement or as a snack depending on your ultimate goals.  In addition it provides you with your daily dose of nutrients and it's one less meal to plan out for the day! I don't know about you, but I've spent way more than that on fancy drinks and eating out.  My go-to recipe is to add 1/2 banana, 1 cup of cold water, a splash of unsweetened almond milk and lots of ice.  I blend it up and it tastes just like a milkshake!

Energize
Although not required, I do use an additional supplement with my Hammer and Chisel program. It is from the Beachbody Performance Line and is called Energize!  I drink this about 30 minutes prior to my workout and it not only gives me a good boost of energy, but it also helps me push harder through my workouts, burning more calories.  There are a few other supplements that are recommend like the Recover, Recharge, and Hydrate; however, I personally do not drink them on a daily basis.

Ok let's move on to the workouts! All I can say is WOW!!  I can honestly say I have not been challenged like I have with these workouts.  I haven't gotten through all of them (there is a GREAT variety) but the ones I have done so far are definitely effective!  I am feeling the burn especially in my legs and booty!

If you begin this program on a Monday, then you get 1 rest day per week which is on Thursdays. One thing that I LOVE is that there are so many different workouts that you don't even repeat any until you are about 13 days in!

Here is a snapshot of the Week 1 Workouts:

And these are just Week 1!!  There are a total of 14 workouts, a bonus workout if you order from a Team Beachbody Coach, AND there is a 21 Day Fix Extreme workout (Dirty 30 Extreme) and a Body Beast Workout (Beast Total Body) included on the DVD's as well!

One of the questions I've been getting is about the equipment that you need to complete the workouts.  Yes, you do need equipment and no, the equipment does not come with the program.
** You will need a variety of weighs.  I like to use 5, 8, 10, and 15. I have to say, I have mainly been sticking with 10 and 15 for this program.
** In addition, you need a bench or a stability ball.  As you can see in the picture above, I do not have a bench and have been using the ball.  I actually think the ball gives you a better core workout; however I will admit that the bench would be nice.  I have actually been using my kitchen chair for some of the moves but SHH!!! I am not recommending that as it is a safety concern.
** You will also need either a chin up bar or over the door resistance bands.  If you already have the bands you can just buy the door attachment at any sporting goods store or even at Walmart.  The bands are DEFINITELY giving me a great workout!

Here is a little sneak peek for you :)

video

So there you have it!  Week 1 is in the books and I will be writing up a Week 2 blog very soon!  Overall I am really enjoying this program. It is a great change of pace from my usual workouts and I LOVE the incorporation of weights!  I feel that if you are really looking to tone your body and build muscle, yet lean out, then this is what you need!

Are you looking for some support, motivation, and accountability to help you reach those 2016 New Year Resolutions?!  I am kicking off my New Year New You group beginning on January 4, 2016!    If you are not actively working with a Coach and would like to give Hammer and Chisel, or any other program a try, fill out the application below!  There are 10 spots left!

2016 New Year New You Challenge

New Year Health and Fitness Group, 21 Day Fix, Hammer and Chisel, Meal Planning, Healthy Eating, Healthy Recipes, January health and fitness support, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker
New Year Resolutions
Well, we’re getting close you know.  January 1st is right around the corner and that means New Year Resolutions are going to be in full effect.  I was doing a little research on common resolutions and I bet you can’t guess what seemed to pop up EVERYWHERE.   Ok, maybe you can guess…..losing weight and getting healthy!  Surprise  Surprise!  Many people plan to join a gym, start eating healthy after gaining all of the holiday weight, and have high hopes for their own transformations due to their dedication at the beginning of the month.

That was TOTALLY me for SEVERAL years.  Right after we would ring in the New Year I always had these high hopes of losing a bunch of weight and “getting healthy.”  The problem was that dedication didn’t last too long.  Why?  Simple.  I would exercise for about two weeks , “eat healthy” and then life would get in the way.  I would be too busy to get my workout in one night, which would turn in to two nights, then three…..  On top of that, I would never really see or feel much of a difference.  So, why bother, right?  Here in Central PA we wear jeans and sweaters for a few months so we may as well wait until closer to Spring to jump back on the bandwagon, right? Yep, that was my life for a LONG time.

It wasn’t until about 2 ½ years ago that it finally kicked in that being healthy isn’t a phase. It’s a LIFESTYLE.  So, I am in to my third holiday season since that whole perception has changed and I have to say, life is a whole lot easier when you aren’t constantly focused on losing weight, but rather just living your life in a healthy way.

New Year Health and Fitness Group, 21 Day Fix, Hammer and Chisel, Meal Planning, Healthy Eating, Healthy Recipes, January health and fitness support, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker

I found that I was constantly failing for two reasons.

1.     I really didn’t know what I was doing.  My version of eating healthy was greatly limiting my calorie intake and buying anything that had low fat, fat free, 0 calories, etc. labeled on it.
2.     I didn’t have any support.  Sure, I had co workers that would be in the same position and we’d chat here and there, but I never had that 24/7 support to help keep me motivated and dedicated to what I was doing. Let me tell you, having someone cheering you on and providing you with that motivation makes a WORLD of difference!

So, in order to help prevent the mistakes that I was constantly making, I became a health and fitness coach in 2013 and started running private accountability groups where I help support, motivate, and hold others accountable to living a healthy life!

Having said that, I am OFFICIALLY opening up my 2016 NEW YEAR NEW YOU accountability group!!

New Year New You Accountability Group

When does it start and what does it entail?
My 2016 New Year New You group will begin on Monday, January 4th, 2016.  It will last 4 weeks. At that point, we will evaluate how things are going and decide if you want to move on to the next group or not.  I run my groups through a closed Facebook group so only the members of the group can see what is being posted.  We will begin with a planning week where we will set our goals, take our measurements / before pic (no, you don’t have to share these with the group), and then I will dive in to the meal planning and prep process.  By Monday January 11th you will have a meal plan in place along with a fitness program so that you are ready to go!  I spend a week with planning and prep so that you are physically and mentally ready to make this change. I feel that often times people jump so fast in to a program and aren’t really prepared (which sets you up for failure).  After planning week is over, I provide daily tips, motivation, and support along with meal plans, meal plan templates, and an overall safe friendly environment to share your ups and downs through the process.  In addition, each day I ask that everyone logs in and rates their day (good or bad).  When the group is over, you will have the choice to continue on in my groups or stop!  Simple as that!

Who is this group for?
I am accepting up to 15 NEW challengers who are NOT already working with a Beachbody Coach.  If you are actively working with a Coach I encourage you to reach out to him or her and see what groups are available.  If you are NOT actively working with a COACH, then fill out the application below and I will be in touch!  If you are eager to start the process, then before submitting the application below, you can create a FREE account HERE, which will officially make me your personal Coach!

What are the requirements?
As a Beachbody health and fitness coach, I feel very strongly about their fitness programs, along with Shakeology.  Along with my group, you are getting the complete package.  Fitness + Nutrition + Support = SUCCESS!  So, the requirement for this group is something called a Challenge Pack.

A Challenge Pack is a discounted bundle pack that includes:

**  A fitness program of your choice (I will personally help you decide on what program based on your goals).
·     ** A month supply of Shakeology. Shakeology is a natural nutritional shake that provides you with your daily dose of nutrients.  It has the proper carb to protein ratio that will keep you feeling fuller, longer.  It is NOT a protein shake and it IS a meal replacement.  It can replace a bigger meal like breakfast, lunch, or dinner, OR it can replace a snack.  It is only once per day so a month supply is approximately 30 meals.
·  **  A 30 day trial of the Club Membership. This is a pretty huge perk because you can access Beachbody on Demand, which allows you to try out ANY Beachbody fitness program! There are 25+ FULL programs, exclusive workouts that are only available On Demand, and sneak peek workouts of the newer programs like Hammer and Chisel, 21 Day Fix, etc.
·      Me as your Coach and access to my accountability group
·      Discounted shipping of $2
·      Guarantee on ALL products

**The price depends on the fitness program you decide on**

Some of the more popular programs include (but are not limited to) 21 Day Fix, 21 Day Fix Extreme, PiYo, Insanity Max 30, and Hammer and Chisel.

How do I sign up?
You have a couple of choices.  It would be best to fill out and submit the application below; however, if you prefer, you can send me an email at lisamariedecker@yahoo.com   In the subject line please put “January Challenge Group.”

So, what do you think?  Are you in?  Are you ready to make 2016 YOUR YEAR?!! Are you ready to make a change that you can STICK TO?  It’s time to do it the HEALTHY way. It’s time to get that support and motivation and be surrounded with like-minded people who want to make the same healthy change!

This is always a very popular group and it will be available on a first come first serve basis. Stop thinking about it and just do it!

Almond Crusted Chicken

One of my favorite things about getting a new fitness program are the new recipes that come in the nutrition guide. The Master's Hammer and Chisel did not disappoint!  I knew as soon as I saw this recipe I wanted it to be the first one to try.  Yes, it's chicken...again, but it was SO good!  I DEFINITELY plan to make this a part of the dinner rotation.  It's a great alternative to just using bread crumbs.  Give it a try and let me know what you think!
**This recipe is from the Hammer and Chisel nutrition guide; however, I did take some different steps in cooking it.**

Almond Crusted Chicken, The Masters Hammer and Chisel, Hammer and Chisel, Hammer and Chisel Nutrition Guide, 21 day fix recipes, clean eating, meal planning, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker
Almond Crusted Chicken

Ingredients: (Makes 6 servings)

  • 6 (4oz) raw chicken breats, boneless, skinless
  • 1/2 cup almond flour
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp finely grated lemon peek (zest)
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil (or extra virgin coconut oil)
  • 3 tsp olive oil

Directions:
  1. Preheat over to 425 degrees F.
  2. Place each chicken breast on a cutting board, hold it flat, and carefully slice it in half horizontally.  (I personally just bought a package of thinly sliced chicken breasts)
  3. Place each chicken breast half between 2 pieces of plastic wrap and pound with a mallet (tenderize) until it is about twice the original size.  Set aside.
  4. Combine almond flour, garlic, lemon peel, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. Mix well and set aside.
  5. Whisk together the egg and water in a shallow dish and set aside.
  6. Dip each chicken breat into the egg mixture, followed by the almond flour mixture, until evenly coated.
  7. Heat oil in skillet over medium heat and add chicken breasts.  Cook for about 3-4 minutes.
  8. Turn chicken and cook for about 2 minutes before transferring chicken on to a baking pan.
  9. Place chicken in the over for about 10-12 minutes or until chicken is cooked through (thickest part of the chicken should reach a temp of 165 degrees F on a thermometer).

I served mine with some mixed veggies and a sweet potato.

If you follow the color coded portion control containers, then this would be 1 green, 1 red, 1/2 orange, and 1 tsp.

Enjoy!

Top 6 Gift Ideas for Fit Friends and Family

Happy Holidays!  Are you done with that holiday shopping yet?  I have to be honest, I did almost all of my shopping online this year.  I feel like I have UPS or FedEx coming to my house every day, but, I didn't have to go out and face the crowds!  I even got a few things for myself!

Holiday Gifts for fit friends, Health and Fitness Gifts, 21 Day Fix, Hammer and Chisel, Holiday Gift Ideas, Fitbit, Fixate, Health and Fitness Accountability Groups, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker

SO, do you have any friends or family that you have to buy for who are in to health and fitness?  If so, then you've come to the right place!  If you are still searching for that "perfect gift," then check out these ideas that I'm sure your fit friends and family would love!

Holiday Gifts for fit friends, Health and Fitness Gifts, 21 Day Fix, Hammer and Chisel, Holiday Gift Ideas, Fitbit, Fixate, Health and Fitness Accountability Groups, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker1.  One of my personal favorite gifts are new workout clothes!  BUT, they can be SO expensive, which is why it's nice to get them as a gift.  There are ways to cut the cost but not the cuteness.  For starters, Target, Kohls, and TJ Maxx have GREAT deals on workout clothes. Anywhere from yoga pants, shorts, to cute motivational tanks.  In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a motivation tank! After all, they are motivational, right?!!  If you are willing to spend the money, then I highly recommend the Sport line at Victoria Secret.  Their sports bars are FANTASTIC, their tanks are cute, and any of the bottoms are super comfy!  Another great place is Athleta.  I have a handful of things from there and am itching to get some more!!  A gift card was on my Christmas list!

Holiday Gifts for fit friends, Health and Fitness Gifts, 21 Day Fix, Hammer and Chisel, Holiday Gift Ideas, Fitbit, Fixate, Health and Fitness Accountability Groups, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker2. A Fitbit seems to be on a lot of lists this year!  It's a great way to begin the New Year! Depending on which model you get, your friend or family member can track calories burned, steps, flights, heart rate, sleep, and more!  Whether you have a super active lifestyle or even if you want to just track the basics, this is PERFECT!  I saw some great deals at Best Buy and Macy's this past week!

3. A new pair of tennis shoes! (Or sneakers, depending on where you are from)  If you know your friend or family member likes working out, even if its taking walks or small jogs, you can't go wrong with a good pair of shoes.  It's something that wears out quickly and we don't tend to replace as much as we need to.  With the different deals that are always out there, you can get a really good pair at a decent price!  Because I stick with home fitness programs, I prefer to use a good pair of cross trainers. To be honest, I've always been a Nike girl when it comes to new tennis shoes because they are well made, comfy, mold and support your foot well, and of course, there are TONS of cute deigns!

4. Want to keep it under $20?  How about a new cookbook?! 21 Day Fix trainer Autumn Calabrese came out with a new cookbook called Fixate!  Whether you are following the 21 day fix program or not, there are some GREAT recipes that anyone would enjoy!

5.  How about the gift of health?!  Shakeology! Coming in at about $4.30 per day, Shakeology is a GREAT gift to give for those who have made it known that they are focusing on their health and fitness.  Hubby's / Significant Other's out there, I can't tell you how many women have said to me "I need to check with my husband" before giving it a try!  Why not beat them to it?! It is a wonderful feeling to  invest in your (or someone else's) health!  One bag of this will help you, your friend or family member gain energy, reduce cravings, lose weight, and regulate digestion, not to mention the packed vitamins and nutrients to boost your immune system, which is especially helpful at this time of year.  Oh yea and it's absolutely delicious!  It's all in how you make it, which is something that I can help with! Are you worried that your gift recipient won't like it?  No worries, Shakeology comes with a 30 day Bottom of the Bag guarantee.  That means it can be returned for a full refund is need be! You should definitely consider giving the long term gift of health.

Holiday Gifts for fit friends, Health and Fitness Gifts, 21 Day Fix, Hammer and Chisel, Holiday Gift Ideas, Fitbit, Fixate, Health and Fitness Accountability Groups, Successfully Fit, Lisa Decker6. How about the gift of fitness? If you follow me at all, you know that I am a busy mom of 2.  Quite frankly, I don't have child care (nor do I want to pay for it) or  1+ hours a day to drive to a gym.  There is nothing wrong with those who do, it just doesn't work for me.  So, home fitness it is!  I am all about those 30-40 minute workouts that I can do from the comfort of my home while my kids are playing and even exercising with me!  I have been doing this for almost 3 years now and words can not explain how happy I am that my daughter's, at ages 4 and 5, see the importance of daily exercise. It is not uncommon for either of them to ask me "when are we exercising?"  There are a ton of different programs out there that people at any fitness level can do. My personal favorite is the 21 Day Fix! There is also a brand spanking new workout that was JUST RELEASED this week!  It is called The Master's Hammer and Chisel!  I am starting the program tomorrow and CAN'T WAIT!  It is definitely taking fitness to the next level.  Of course, we are not limited to these two programs.  If you are interested in a program, then we can figure out which would be the best based on your goals.

Oh and if you decide to purchase both a fitness program and Shakeology, you will get a discount! PLUS, I am actually running a December promotion of $30 back on any challenge pack, so, you could potentially get a challenge pack for a SUPER GREAT price! Bonus!
I am beginning a New Year New You support and accountability group beginning January 4, 2016.  The group will run for 30 days in a closed Facebook group, which means anyone can participate from the comfort of their home! I will provide the members with support, motivation, accountability, plus meal planning, recipes and tips to staying healthy!

Feel free to contact me at lisamariedecker@yahoo.com if you have any questions or need any help!  In addition, you can fill out the application below to join or gain more information on my next group!

I wish you a safe, healthy, and happy holiday season and hope that you get the gift of health and fitness for your loved ones!
